Needs Assessment
GRDP provides our partners with needs assessment services geared toward designing appropriate humanitarian responses to disasters, conflict, and complex emergencies. GRDP assessments are built around two categories, situation (or damage) assessments that provide a description of what has happened, and needs assessments that describe the level and type of assistance required. Although assessments are tailored to our partner’s specifications and are typically conducted in phases, GRDP assessments are designed to determine the:
- nature and extent of the disaster or emergency
- extent of damage and secondary threats
- condition and needs of the affected population
- availability of resources
- local response capacity
- options for relief assistance and long-term recovery
- need for international assistance
- response priorities
GRDP offers standardized assessment methodologies, including a variety of survey and data collection techniques, data interpretation and forecasting, phased reporting, and monitoring. All assessment services incorporate Sphere Minimum Standards, donor objectives, and other international standards of practice and are conducted with sensitivity to issues of cultural norms, gender, vulnerability, protection, participation, and coordination.
